Hong Kong police have frozen HK$30 million (US$3.8 million) held in the bank account of a 36-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of theft after he refused to share the Mark Six jackpot with colleagues.
The group reportedly included some Food and Environmental Health Department (FEHD) employees.
“The case is being investigated by the Western Region Crime Support Team. A 36-year-old man was arrested yesterday, and the relevant funds have been frozen in his bank account,” Police Commissioner Guo Zhao Yat-ming said on Saturday.
“Regarding the contact with FEHD, the report was submitted by someone else, so we do not see a direct connection to the department itself.”
The suspect bought the ticket and received the amount in his personal bank account, but he refused to divide the amount equally among his colleagues, according to the source.
