Leeds ‘do not drift’ after climbing to third place with defeat of Newcastle G Trends

Jayden Bogle insists Leeds are “not getting carried away” despite climbing to third in the Premier League with a dominant 4-1 win over Newcastle.

Leeds ran riot at Elland Road, with Bogle scoring the second goal after a header from Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who scored a goal of his own in the third, with a Sean Stewart own goal and Noah Okafor completing the scorers.

Daniel Farke’s men are unbeaten in the Championship this season and now sit third in the Championship, while they inflicted Newcastle to their first defeat of the season.

Regarding Leeds’ ambitions, Bogle told Sky Sports: “At the moment, we are taking it game by game, and we must not overdo it.

“Everyone is ambitious in their own way, but as a group, we will maintain our focus and focus on the next game.”

Leeds continue to impress in 2026

Leeds’ success this season actually goes back to the start of the year, with few teams looking to improve their form in 2026.

Only Arsenal (52), Manchester City (50), Manchester United (45) and Bournemouth (37) have won more Premier League points in 2026 than Leeds United (35), with the Whites suffering just one defeat over their last 13 league games (won six, drawn six).

“It’s about working, understanding the players and playing with them,” Bogle added.

“Dom (Calvert-Lewin) in the middle competes for everything, to have players next to him and under him is massive for us. It paid off well tonight.

“We worked a rotation, and JJ (James Justin) would move a little higher and wider at times which left the pocket open for me to get into.

“Dom (Calvert-Lewin) is a centre-back. It’s about getting into an area where the ball can go. We’ve tried some different patterns and movements that we’ve worked on in training to create space.”

“We wanted to start well today, get the crowd going and get them motivated. We did that at the start, and it was about maintaining that and keeping the energy high.

“It was a difficult match, we ran a lot, and it was physically difficult. They (Newcastle) are a big team, and they can hurt you at any moment.”
