NBA: Steph Curry agrees to a two-year, $116 million extension with the Golden State Warriors G Trends

Stephen Curry has agreed to a two-year, $116 million contract extension with the Golden State Warriors, keeping the franchise icon at sole position. NBA The team he played for throughout his twentieth season.

The agreement includes a player option for the 2028-29 season and will keep Curry in Golden State after his current $62.6 million contract expires.

Curry became eligible for an extension of up to two years and $136.7 million on August 29, but ultimately opted for a smaller deal in exchange for greater security and increased flexibility for the Warriors.

The decision came after several weeks of discussions about the different options available to him.

Golden State had offered Curry the possibility of signing a max extension, accepting a pay cut or waiting before committing to a new contract.

Curry ultimately opted for the lower salary, which allowed more room for the franchise to make moves around him.

His salary will drop from $62.6 million next season to $55.7 million in 2027-28, before a $60.2 million player option in 2028-29.

This cut is expected to give Golden State about $10 million in additional cap space next summer, which could allow the Warriors to be more active in free agency or the trade market.

“We’re in a very interesting situation,” Curry told ESPN earlier this week. “All the different salary cap conditions whether I sign at the max or below or whatever, I want to be on a competitive team.

“I want to have the opportunity to have some flexibility because we haven’t had that in the past years, in the recent past…. This team has to have the flexibility to make the necessary moves if things happen. Those are always just considerations.”

“For me, information and patience are key. It’s a very unique situation all the way based on where we’ve been over the last four years, where I’ve been in my career, what our team looks like this year and the absolute desperation to win. I’m trying to balance it all.”
