Plagued by unauthorized re-uploads of their Total War: Warhammer 3 rework that utilize AI, the lead modder behind SFO: Grimhammer 3 has chosen to deliberately corrupt the mod. The aim is to ensure that modders retain more control over where and when the latest version of Grimhammer 3 can be picked up, with creator Venris threatening to make the mod private if the situation doesn’t improve.
“Due to the increasing number of unauthorized reuploads of SFO: Grimhammer III, and more importantly, the use of AI in the process, I have deliberately corrupted the mod to prevent it from working with such unauthorized downloads,” they wrote in a statement. Patreon Post spotted by IGN. “If the situation continues to escalate, I will make SFO: Grimhammer III private.
“SFO: Grimhammer is the result of almost ten years of passion and love for this community and the fantasy world. As such, I do not allow anyone to take my work without permission. Especially not for AI-related purposes. Support the modders, not the AI. When (the) update (is) ready, it will be released on Steam as always. Nowhere else.” Venris concluded by clarifying that he would not pay for the mod.
SFO (Simply Fun Overhaul) mods for the Twar Warhammer series aim to inject more usability into the games, but in a way that prioritizes the fun of battles. Darkhammer III achieves this by reorganizing combat, battle duration and adding new abilities. It is regularly updated with new extras, its last update before the last one is doubled Call of Bretonnia.
While SFO Team’s mods are primarily released through the Steam Workshop, modding sites like Nexus Mods have recently decided to tighten up their labeling of mods created using generative AI. For a more in-depth look at how the use of technology is changing the way mods are created specifically for Skyrim, give my interview with the modders behind Bard Hero and the non-AI bard mod, based on a reading.
