Dancing with the stars candidate Jackson Olson sends love to the competitor Guillermo Rodríguez after it sparked controversy.
“To G and to all of you, I am so sorry from the bottom of my heart that my comment I made the other day caused so much negativity,” Olson, 29, wrote via Instagram on Tuesday, October 6th. “I love this guy ❤️ now let’s do what this show is supposed to be about. DANCE 🕺 ily G.”
The Savannah Bananas player shared a video with audio of the Hannah Montana hit “Nobody’s Perfect.” In the clip, Rodriguez, 55, and Olson shook off the discourse while wearing matching sunglasses and danced with each other.
Ahead of Tuesday’s Mariah Carey Night performances, Olson caused a stir on social media when he left a comment on a post shared by the Loco Beach Coconuts. The video showed one of the athlete’s dance choreographies performed by Rodriguez and Rodriguez Witney Carson earlier in the DWTS Season.
“But seriously, how did you do it better than him with two hours of rehearsal,” Olson wrote, adding a laughing emoji.
Fans quickly assumed that Olson was overshadowing Rodriguez, who frequently ended up at the bottom of the leaderboard during Season 35.
Both Olson and Rodriguez enter the ballroom again on Tuesday for Mariah Carey Night. The athlete dances a waltz with the professional Emma Slaterwhile Rodriguez and Carson, 32, perform a samba.
Despite his consistently low scores, Rodriguez maintained a positive attitude throughout the competition. Carson – who is currently pregnant with her third child – has also defended her partner’s work ethic in the studio.
“This is not a dance competition,” she said in an Instagram Story after the season premiere. “Yes, of course we professionals pride ourselves on providing the best dancing possible and we want our celebrities to get better. If it were truly a dance competition, every single celebrity would enter the competition with the same level of dance experience.”
Carson added that unlike some of the other celebrities in the cast, Rodriguez came onto the show with no dance experience.
“So it’s not fair, and that’s the point. The point is to vote for your favorite, and that’s what the voting system is for,” she continued. “So, I just wanted to give my opinion. Remember, it’s about voting for your favorite. If you like dancing and watching good dances, you’ll vote for it.”
Although the duo didn’t have the highest scores this season, they were able to stay in the competition thanks to the support of fans voting from home. Carson also sees a change of heart among the judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough And Bruno Tonioli.
“I feel like we’re slowly winning them over,” Carson said Us exclusively after the couple’s Viral Hits Night performance.
Dancing with the stars airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+.
