Indie developer Break Free Interactive has launched VMX on Meta Quest 2 and Quest 3, bringing a physical and gestural take on BMX, mountain biking and scootering to standalone VR. Available now on the Meta Store for $14.99 / £11.99 / €13.99, the game allows players to control their ride through body movements rather than traditional controls, creating a VR sports experience around the feeling of actually riding.

At the heart of VMX is a custom physics and control system designed specifically for VR. Players use physical gestures to build momentum, find their line and throw tricks, with the game designed around movement rather than memorized button combinations. Five locations are available at launch, ranging from Under the Bridge Skatepark and Utah Desert Dirt Track to a Miami city map, a Docks and Harbor setting and a full stadium with a mega-amp and bustling crowd. Each environment offers its own flavor of driving, whether players are chasing high scores, practicing freestyle, or simply exploring with friends in multiplayer.

Personalization plays a big role in the VMX experience. The workshop allows players to paint their bike with custom colors, gradients and designs, while the riders themselves can be outfitted with helmets, goggles, full-face helmets, snapbacks and beanies. Gear is unlocked by earning in-game points through regular play, giving progression a natural feel without paywalls getting in the way.

Multiplayer is built into the experience from the start, with friends able to explore maps together, session locations, and compete for high scores. For those new to VR or wary of movement discomfort, a Comfort mode is available by default, toning down the intensity of movement while players become familiar with the controls. Veterans looking for something more demanding can upgrade to Immersive Mode, which increases the sensation of physical movement for a deeper connection with the ride.
