Inter Milan 3-2 Napoli
Lautaro Martinez played both hero and villain in a thrilling encounter at the San Siro, scoring first to put Inter back in the game before scoring the winner in stoppage time to complete a remarkable comeback against Napoli.
It seemed that the visiting team was on its way to victory when Matteo Politano and Rasmus Hoglund scored two consecutive goals at the start of the second half to put Massimiliano Allegri’s team ahead 2-0.
Politano opened the scoring in the 50th minute from a rebound inside the penalty area, and Hoglund took advantage of a defensive error three minutes later. Martinez pulled one back almost immediately, but Napoli, who missed Scott McTominay due to minor heart surgery, held on until Marcus Thuram headed home the equalizer in the 82nd minute.
There seemed to be no way forward for Inter until Napoli failed to clear a corner kick in the third minute of stoppage time.
Manuel Akanji brought the ball back into the six-yard box, Martinez got to the back post and slotted home a shot of pandemonium inside Meazza.
Schalke 04 0-0 Bayern Munich
Bayern Munich suffered a drop on points for the first time this season, as newly promoted Schalke 04 achieved a famous goalless draw at the Veltins Arena.
Vincent Kompany made the bold decision to leave Kane, Michael Olise and Jamal Musiala on the bench from the start, but the plan backfired.
Kompany resorted to Kane, then Olissi and Musiala in the second half, but Loris Karius, the 38-year-old goalkeeper whose career was turned upside down in the 2018 Champions League final, was equal in everything.
Kane’s shot from outside the penalty area in the 87th minute appeared to be headed for a corner kick before Karius threw himself at full energy to his left and diverted it backwards.
Athletic Bilbao 3-0 Atletico Madrid
Athletic Club handed Atletico Madrid their first defeat of the season with a devastating second-half performance at San Mames, with Neco Williams, Robert Navarro and Oihan Sunset combining to dismantle one of La Liga’s most stubborn defences.
Atletico have shown early promise. Lee Kang-in hit the post in the third minute after the hosts opened up a move that suggested the visitors might be controlling the tempo of the match.
But Athletic, under Edin Terzic, had a different offer after the break.
Williams stirred things up thirty seconds into the second half, scoring his first goal of the season to open the floodgates, and Navarro added a second two minutes later to effectively end the game.
