A growing number of former senior government officials have joined the race for seats on Hong Kong’s Election Commission, a trend that observers say will boost the prestige and legitimacy of the body charged with choosing the city’s next leader. As the two-week nomination period approaches its end next Tuesday, the Registration and Elections Office has received 1,115 nominations for 982 elected seats on the Election Commission as of Friday. The elections are scheduled to take place on November 22.
