Presentation of the Lech Poznań vs. Sunderland match
Sunderland’s season is a tale of two competitions. In the Premier League, they are in the relegation zone after four consecutive defeats. In the Europa League, they have a perfect record. On Thursday evening they travel to Poland to face Lech Poznań, hoping Europe can lift the gloom once again.
Regis Le Pre admitted he was “worried” after the weekend’s “very painful” defeat to Bournemouth, describing the current period as a “huge decline” in a season he had always expected to see “ups and downs”.
The Europa League was much better. Enzo Lo Fe’s penalty earned Sunderland a 1-0 win over AZ Alkmaar in the first round, and they showed real character in Leiria last week. Torensee took the lead at half-time, but Jules Ahoka and Noah Siddiqui scored in the last 25 minutes to make it 2-1.
Lech Poznań is in the opposite position. Nils Frederiksen’s side are flying domestically, winning their last three Extraklassa matches by scores of 6-1, 4-1 and 5-1, but Europe has been a different story. The Polish champions lost 4-0 to Crystal Palace in the first round and then by the same score in their second match at home against Bayer Leverkusen. They are bottom of the league table, have yet to score in the competition, and have conceded more goals than any other team.
There’s an unwanted piece of history at stake for Lech, too. Another defeat by four goals or more would make them the first team in the history of the UEFA Cup or Europa League to lose their first three games of the season by that margin.
This will be the first ever meeting between the two clubs.

Team news for the Lech Poznań vs. Sunderland match
Sunderland is without Wilson Isidore, Dan Ballard, Thomas Meunier and Romain Mundel. Brian Brobbey has returned to training after suffering a hamstring injury, but Lopress said the club “will not rush this process” and he is unlikely to participate.
With Isidore also out, Sunderland lack attacking options, meaning youngster Timur Totirov is likely to keep his place. Habib Diarra, Dayan Mithali and Luke O’Nien are all pushing for call-ups after starting on the bench at the weekend.
As for Leach, Allahyar Sayadmansh will be absent due to a hamstring injury he suffered in training earlier this month. Alex Douglas (ankle) and Ali Gholizadeh (cruciate ligament) are also absent, while Joao Moutinho and Wojciech Monka are also unavailable.
Pablo Rodriguez impressed in Lech’s recent league win and is expected to start in attacking midfield.

Predict the result of the Lech Poznań vs. Sunderland match
Sunderland were poor against Bournemouth at the weekend and need a strong performance here to change the mood ahead of Sunday’s clash with Leeds. Le Bris will once again juggle his side but the Wearsiders must be good enough to pick up a point.
