Nottingham Forest captain Morgan Gibbs-White admitted his side’s struggles in front of goal were “not good enough” after another frustrating outing. Premier League picnic.
Forest were unable to turn an encouraging performance into three points against Ipswich, with Gibbs-White convinced his side deserved more after dominating the second half.
The midfielder believes Forest are playing well enough to start winning games, but admitted their inability to convert chances has become a major concern.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Gibbs-White insisted Forest’s recent form deserved better results.
“We’ve had a lot of good performances recently, but it wasn’t enough to get the three points and get over the line,” he said.
“I feel like we had too many chances, the first half was awkward, they were in control and then we were.
“In the second half, we were completely in control and should have won the game in my opinion. As long as we keep performing like this, we should definitely win.
“That’s a question we’ve been asking ourselves in training, we’ve been doing shooting drills and if you saw how they were going yesterday… but they weren’t in the game.
“It is a topic of discussion and it is not good enough but I am proud of the boys who continue to progress and perform highly.”
Gibbs-White questions VAR’s involvement in Diop incident
Gibbs-White also addressed a controversial incident involving Issa Diop, who escaped a red card after a VAR review.
While the Forest midfielder agreed with the final decision, he questioned why officials on the pitch could not be trusted to make the decision themselves.
“My only question is, why should it go to the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) when the referee and assistant referee are standing there and watching, the decision should be on the pitch there and then,” he said.
“I agree with the decision because we don’t know if it will get there.
“I think there should be ownership on the pitch. The referee and linesman can see what could have happened, but VAR should always intervene. But that’s the way it is.”
