Manchester United’s miserable run continued as they lost 4-1 to Como in the first leg UEFA Champions Leaguewhere Nico Paz scored two goals in a wonderful performance for the Italian team.

Anastasios Dovikas and Jacopo Ramon also scored for Cesc Fabregas’ side, who comfortably outplayed Michael Carrick’s men to secure a memorable result.

Joshua Zirkzee scored a late goal for United, but it did little to mask another worrying display from the Premier League side, who are winless in seven matches.

Indeed, United created their first chance inside two minutes when Diogo Dalot ran on to Matheus Cunha’s pass, but the defender shot wide of the target.

Cuomo immediately punished the mistake, coming up with the first attack of the match.

Lucas da Cunha passed the ball to Paz on the edge of the box, and the Argentine was given plenty of time to turn before he curled a stunning left-footed shot past Ceni Lamines into the bottom corner.

The hosts continued to threaten, and Dovikas looked dangerous whenever he received the ball inside the box.

United had a rare chance when Harry Maguire headed in Brian Mbeumo’s header, but they offered little going forward.

Cuomo called for a penalty kick in the 19th minute when Martin Baturina fell under the influence of Maguire, although the referee waved to continue playing.

Dovikas then missed a good chance in the 39th minute, firing a shot high and wide after it hit Yann Couto’s through ball.

Baturina also tested Laminis with a powerful shot shortly before half-time, while Bruno Fernandes sent a curling shot over the bar.

Peace inspires while union crumbles

Carrick responded by making two changes in the second half, bringing on Amad Diallo and Carlos Baleba instead of Cunha and Andre Santos.

United initially showed more energy, but any hopes of a comeback were quickly dashed when Comeau doubled their lead in the 49th minute.

Paz was involved strongly again, finding space to pass to Doikas, who evaded Matthijs de Ligt and slotted a shot past Lammens.

The visitors struggled to respond, with Mason Mount sending an ambitious ball wide before Como threatened to add a third goal.

Da Cunha should have done better when he cut in with his left foot, but his curling effort failed to find the far corner.

Nico PazNico Paz

United’s problems worsened in the 57th minute when Paleba carelessly lost the ball in midfield.

His attempted pass was intercepted by Paz and he raced towards goal before calmly shooting past the advancing Lammens to make it 3-0.

The Argentine almost completed his hat-trick two minutes later, but the United goalkeeper blocked a good shot to deny him from the edge of the penalty area.

Carrick’s team enjoyed greater possession of the ball as the second half progressed, despite the difficulty of creating clear-cut chances.

Youri Tielemans sent a simple shot towards Jan Botez, while Fernandes fired the ball powerfully from distance.

Imad provided a rare shining moment when he shot a powerful shot from 25 yards, forcing Botez to tip the ball over the crossbar.

But Como added the fourth goal in the 76th minute after another quick attack.

Substitute Kaiqui sent an excellent cross into the box, with centre-back Ramon making an unmarked move forward to header past Lamins.

Paz departed to a standing ovation shortly afterwards, having scored two goals and set up another in a brilliant individual display.

United finally found the net in stoppage time when Imad crossed for Zirkzee, who controlled the ball before shooting from close range past Botez.

It was nothing more than a consolation for the visitors, whose difficult Champions League campaign continued with another devastating result.
