AI-generated Fallout: A New York browser game filled with completely cursed faces and hit by Bethesda’s cease-and-desist, its teleprompter claims. G Trends

In perhaps the least surprising Fallout news since New Vegas’ Raul confirmed that ghouls with dodgy knees don’t like to sneak around, the person behind an AI-generated browser game called Fallout: New York has claimed to have received a cease-and-desist message from Bethesda’s parent company, ZeniMax. Their creation, if such a term fits, was generated using Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 technology.

The person behind Fallout: New York, a self-styled “AI Creative” using the handle CHRIS FIRST on Twitter (because of course it happened there), started posting about it earlier this week. Based on the trailer they released, the game’s map sort of looked like a mangled hodgepodge of the post-apocalyptic Big Apple with a GTA 4 map mod that someone cobbled together by spending 20 minutes filling the streets with clutter. CHRIS FIRST boasted quests, companions, dialogue trees, TVAs, and a Pip-Boy, just like a game with no spinoffs.

The faces of the NPCs are utterly hideous, in a silly way that might be charming in a flawless game, but which here contributes to the feeling of undercooked leftovers cobbled together by computer brains. “It’s all free and I’m not making any money from this,” the game manager wrote in response to someone who joked that legal action might be imminent. “I hope they don’t ask me to remove it. I really like Fallout and it was just a fun tech demo. But I should add a quest where you have to deliver papers to someone, but they keep running away.”

It seems no amount of racing can stop CHRIS FIRST from receiving what appears to be a notice of cease and desist from Bethesda’s parent company, ZeniMax, on Fallout: New York. If it is indeed one, the use of the domain name “fallout.nyc” appears to be the aspect that the company has chosen to rely on in order to protect its copyrighted material.

I have requested comment from Bethesda.

Hey @BethesdaStudios,” CHRIST FIRST said in response to the alleged review. “How about you make a Fallout game instead so I don’t have to? Sorry to everyone who enjoyed the game! But the costumes got involved and the fun was over.”

If you want to play a community-made Fallout game that isn’t crappy AI, I can warmly recommend massive mod Fallout: London. Its quests, discussions, and the rest were done by humans who now pursue independent development while releasing DLC whenever they can.
