I love me a weird little immersive simulation that I do. There’s just something special about their flexibility, so my ears always perk up like a dog hearing the word walkies every time a new one comes on the scene. Today it’s Bloodwoven, the next game from the developers behind Blood West (I guess they like blood a lot), with a logline that immediately drew me in: “survive and thrive in a world built on the frozen corpse of a forgotten god.” Chills!
The world becomes more and more overwhelming as the Steam page reveals itself to you (ta for the spot, PC gamer). Apparently, you and your people are born from groups, but lately those same groups are giving birth to “corrupted forms – abominations that are neither human nor animal.” As a result, you find yourself in a position where you have to figure out how to survive these new conditions, in addition to the old ones you’re already heading toward.
Bloodwoven also fits into the survival genre, with a specific need to take care of oneself in harsh winter conditions. This apparently extends to things like lighting fires to keep you warm, with a little cold meter at the bottom telling you how long you can last in the blistering cold. It’s also important to maintain your inventory, as you need to make sure you’re equipped with food and drinks so you don’t throw yourself into the bucket.
The trailer suggests that you’ll also explore slightly alien, fleshy, dungeon-like areas, all of which is quite disturbing. It also appears that there will be a day/night cycle, with all the supernatural monsters coming out in force in the evening. But the shift from morning to evening also seems to bring new areas to explore, an approach I’m curious to explore further.
Bloodwoven doesn’t have a release date yet, but you can add it to your wishlist on Steam while you wait.
