A baby seal has received widespread attention on social media in China after swimming 200 kilometers to return to an island where it lived for several months after being released into the wild.

This two-year-old seal marks his second return to a human-populated area after being released into the open seas.

Internet users were affected by videos showing the seal, named “Nana”, returning to the shores of Dachangshan Island in Liaoning Province, northeastern China.

Nana was released into the ocean on September 7, but reappeared on the island on September 13 after covering an impressive distance of 200 kilometres, Science Education Times reported, thanks to GPS equipment attached to his body.
