Manchester United will be hoping to end a miserable week on a high when they go to Fulham on Sunday.

united The team lost 1-0 at home to rivals Manchester City last Sunday, despite playing most of the match with one man after Phil Foden was sent off in the first half.

This was followed by a 3-2 defeat to Brighton League CupIt is the first time since 1976 that United has lost after leading 2-0 at Old Trafford.

These results have increased the pressure on Carrick, who worked admirably last season to lead United to the Champions League after a period of chaos under Ruben Amorim.

But the former England midfielder called for calm ahead of Sunday’s trip to Fulham.

“We have to set the record straight, it’s not a catastrophe or a catastrophe, it’s not the end of the world. We’re not in a place where we’ve had a long, horrific period of horrific outcomes,” he said.

“We’ve lost two games recently. We feel like we’ve started and been involved in all the games we’ve played, and we’re not really struggling all the time. We’ve done a lot of good things, belief comes from that. The good things we’ve done get lost in the surrounding emotions but they’re not lost on us.”

Alvaro Arbeloa, Carrick’s counterpart at Fulham, is also under scrutiny, with his side sitting third from bottom in the Premier League, despite picking up their first point last weekend in a goalless draw with Liverpool.

The former Real Madrid coach said: “Every coach in the Premier League is under pressure, the same applies to every coach, not because of what comes from outside, but because you have to be really demanding of yourself.

“All managers, we want to win every weekend and of course when you are a coach of a big team you are always under pressure but it is the same for me because I need to win games. I think both teams will want to win the game on Sunday, so it will be a good battle.”
