Well, it’s happening faster than I expected. That’s both what the actress told the Bishop and my immediate reaction to a report claiming that GTA 6 is expected to release on PC in the early months of 2027. That would put it just a few months behind the initial console release on November 19, but far less than the year or so people like me had assumed based on how Rockstar handled GTA 5.
According to the report of GamesBeatwhich cites “four industry sources familiar with the studio’s plans”, the first three months of 2027 is the window during which Rockstar intends to bring Grandma Stealy Wheely 6 to PC. This would mean it would launch no later than the end of March, pending possible delays. The site requested comment from Rockstar itself, but said the publishers did not respond before publication.
If accurate, it would certainly eliminate the problem of the game appearing to be ineligible for cloud streaming on PC when it debuts elsewhere in November. As for why Rockstar would position a PC port in this strange compromise between this initial launch and the following year, the latter of which at least makes more sense from a “trying to get a second sales bump so it does big things for our financial books two years in a row” perspective, the desire to attract as many people as possible before the inevitable post-launch GTA Online component of GTA 6 also seems prudent.
In September, Twitch CEO Dan Clancy hinted that he expected such a multiplayer element to launch at some point in 2027. His word is far from officially confirmed, but given the cash cow status of the GTA 5 version of GTA Online, getting that relatively strong moolah would make sense for a studio eager to start reaping all the benefits of finally releasing its latest monster. To do that, you have to include the people at PC who Take-Two boss Strauss Zelnick has admitted are more important to the bottom line of companies like his than before.
I can see the logic. On the other hand, you have skeptics like RPS boss Jules, who saw this report and was firm in his stance that he won’t believe GTA 6 is coming to his machine in such a short time until protagonist Jason’s naked body is right there on his monitor, rendered in all the glory only a PC can manage.
Unfortunately, if this news leads to GTA 6’s PC release date being locked, it will leave The Sopranos: Road to Respect with a huge chasm behind it on the list of highly anticipated crime sims currently without a PC release date. By late 2027, it looks like 7 Studios might be open after all. You know what to do.
