A free update for Mario Tennis Fever has been released, adding a new Court, Racket, and Mix-It-Up mode based on the Super Mario Galaxy games, as well as adding online GameShare via GameChat.
Update 1.1.0 for Mario Tennis Fever is now available and is a pretty good batch of new content. The new Galaxy Court is visually Mario Galaxy themed, but also gives the balls a higher bounce to mimic the lower gravity of its smaller celestial bodies. Then there’s the new Black Hole Racket, which can create black holes with a Fever Shot that can suck opponents straight in.
The Galaxy Court Match is added as a new mode, which introduces one of three prank comets, which can summon dark doubles, speed everyone up, or a sudden death mode where body blows will immediately eliminate a character from the game.
Perhaps the best addition, however, is that GameShare can now work online via GameChat. While this requires everyone to have a Switch Online subscription for GameChat, it means four people can play online using one copy of the game (I’d just be wary of latency in this scenario).
Here are the full Mario Tennis Fever v1.1.0 patch notes:
Added “GameShare” and “Play via GameChat”
- Added functionality to play the game with friends on GameChat who don’t have the game.
- In “Play via GameChat” you can play tennis matches with swing controls in addition to tennis matches with button controls and games in Mix It Up. Note: A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to use GameChat.
Added a new Fever racket, the “Black Hole Racket”.
- The new Fever Racket “Black Hole Racket” has been added, which causes a black hole when the Fever Shot hits the ground.
- The black hole it causes has the effect of pulling nearby players into the black hole when it becomes large.
- Your HP gauge will take damage if you approach the black hole. If your HP reaches 0 due to the black hole and you are knocked out, you will be sucked into the black hole.
- Black holes do not have the effect of attracting incoming balls.
Added a new courtyard, the “Galaxy Court”.
- A new court was added based on Super Mario Galaxy.
- The court is built on a distant planet, and while the ball speed isn’t particularly fast, the balls have a high bounce.
- The field has a different shape depending on whether you play free matches, ranked matches or special matches.
Added a new special match, “Galaxy Court Match”.
- Special “Galaxy Court Match” match rules have been added: you play on a spherical court built on a distant planet.
- As the match progresses, one of three types of “Prankster Comets” will appear and significantly change the strategy of the match.
