Bucharest-based developer Amber Studio has confirmed that Mexican Ninjaa 2.5D roguelike beat’em up described as fast-paced and gloriously over-the-top, will launch on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on August 20, 2026. The game immerses players in Nuevo Tokyo, a city ruled by the Narkuzas, a criminal superpower born from the unholy union of the Narcos of Mexico and the Yakuza of Japan. A rebel faction on the outskirts of town has had enough, and it’s up to the Mexican Ninja to lead the uprising.

The combat system is at the heart of the experience, built around precise movement, careful positioning and well-timed attacks. According to Amber Studio, the combat is designed to be accessible to newcomers while still providing enough depth to reward dedicated players who put in the hours. Every duel has weight, and the game builds on the spectacle of it all with what the developer calls a “gore-splattered flair” in stylized street-level environments.

As a rogue-lite, no two playthroughs will be the same. Levels are randomized, weapons evolve in increasingly outlandish directions, and each game introduces new ninja skills unlocked through training with El Mero Mero Sensei. Players can also gain the favor of Mexican-Japanese spirits, access their powers, and unleash special abilities known as Mexican Jutsus. A skill tree described as the “Way of the Donkey” allows players to create and experiment with different combos and power combinations, while hidden cosmetic items allow players to pose as a revolutionary worth following.

Creative director Dario Hoyo summed up the philosophy behind the project in the announcement: “Every parry, every jutsu, every run is about that feeling of being knocked down and getting back up with more swagger than before. Mexican Ninja has always been a vibe, a spirit, a way of being and now gamers everywhere can find their inner ass.” It’s a statement that captures the tone of the game rather well, blending arcade brawling with a sense of identity. colorful that sets it apart from the usual crowd of roguelikes.

Mexican Ninja will launch on August 20, 2026 on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Interested people can add their wishes and follow the game now to stay up to date with the news. Additional resources and information are available via the official press kit.
