Hong Kong recorded its highest monthly number of visitors since the Covid-19 pandemic, provisional official figures showed, with authorities attributing August’s total to a series of international conferences and major events.
The Hong Kong Tourism Board said Tuesday that the city welcomed 5.46 million visitors over the course of the month, up 6 percent from a year earlier, and the highest monthly total since the pandemic.
Tourist numbers in the first eight months of the year also rose by 11 percent year on year, driven by the influx of arrivals from the Chinese mainland and long-distance international arrivals.
