Golf games come in two flavors. Some want to be real golf, with real courses and swings you can feel. Others watch real golf and wonder what would happen if the ball were a horse.

This list covers both. Seven golf games you can play right now, from the most realistic to the most ridiculous. Most are on Xbox, two are on Meta Quest and one is the odd one out.

1. PGA Tour 2K25

Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PS5, PC, Switch 2

If you want golf that looks like a Sunday afternoon on TV, start here. PGA Tour 2K25 is the most comprehensive golf simulation you can buy today.

The EvoSwing system gives you more control over each club, with new shot types and ball flights. For the first time in the series, you will be able to play three major golf tournaments: the PGA Championship, the US Open and the Open. There’s a full MyCAREER mode, course designer, and cross-platform companies so you can play with your friends on other consoles.

It also continues to grow. 2K added the 2026 Majors and new seasons as part of its Year 2 plan, and the game hit the Switch 2 in February.

Namely: PGA Tour 2K23 has been removed from sale and its servers will close in March 2027. If you find it cheap, leave it.

2. EA Sports PGA Tour

Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, PS5, PC

EA’s golf game has one thing 2K doesn’t: Augusta National, home of the Masters. The courses were scanned with LiDAR to match the actual courses, and Augusta in particular is beautiful.

It also plays a little differently. The Pure Strike system rewards clean contact, so timing matters as much as power and aim.

The servers are still operational and daily tournaments are still happening. EA hasn’t given it a major update in a long time, so consider it a finished game rather than a growing game. If you only want one SIM card, 2K25 is the safest choice. If you want to play the Masters course, this is the only modern way to do it.

3. Golf+

Platforms: Meta Quest 2, 3 and 3S

Now let’s move on to VR, where you swing for real. Golf+ is the official VR golf game of the PGA Tour. You hold the controller like a club, pick it up again and continue.

Three courses are free. More than 50 real-world games are available, including Pebble Beach, the Old Course at St Andrews and TPC Sawgrass. There’s multiplayer, a ranked Golf+ Tour, and stats like strokes gained if you want to take it seriously.

On Quest 3 and 3S, there’s also Immersive Putting, where you use a real putter and a real ball on a virtual green placed above your room. This part requires the Golf+ Pass subscription.

A word of advice: free up some space before your first trip. Your lampshade will thank you.

4. Walkabout Mini Golf

Platforms: Meta Quest, PSVR2, Steam VR

Same helmet, smaller swing. Walkabout Mini Golf is the VR golf game I would give the family first.

The ball physics seem decent and the courses are nice to watch. Each has a harder nighttime version to unlock, and there are hidden stray balls to find if you like to explore. Up to eight people can play together, across Quest, PlayStation VR2 and Steam.

It continues to grow. There are courses based on Labyrinth and Wallace and Gromit, and a Homestar Runner pack arrived this summer. It’s rated E for everyone, so it’s an easy choice for younger players.

5. Golf Club: Wasteland

Platforms: Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, PC, iOS, Android

Now things are getting weird. Golf Club: Wasteland takes place on an Earth that was left in ruins after the rich moved to Mars. You play Charley, a pilot who returns to do a tour in the rubble.

It is played in parallel, more like a platform game than a round of golf. Holes takes you through an empty shopping mall, onto tower balconies and through a factory workshop.

What interests you is Radio Nostalgia, a station that broadcasts music and stories of people on Mars who miss their homes. It’s funny and a little sad. There’s a Story mode if you just want to enjoy the ride, and a Challenge mode if you want to continue with normal.

6. Cursed at golf

Platforms: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation, Switch, PC

Cursed to Golf opens with a golfer on the verge of winning a big tournament, until a lightning strike ends his round. Now he’s stuck in Golf Purgatory, and the only way out is to go through 18 holes.

It’s a roguelike. Finish each hole within par or the curse sends you back to the tee. The courses are full of fans, spikes, TNT boxes and teleporters, and you collect Ace Cards to bend the rules as you wish.

Before its launch, some called it the Dark Souls of golf. That’s pretty much true. It’s tough, it’s smart and every race makes for a good story.

7. What is this Golf?

Platforms: PC, Switch, PS4, PS5, Apple Arcade (not on Xbox)

And finally, the most ridiculous of the lot. Danish studio Triband calls What the Golf? the golf game for those who hate golf.

Each level changes the rules. You’ll hit a ball, then a car, then a house, then a horse. There are boss fights, space golf, and plenty of jokes aimed at other famous games.

It’s short and silly, and it’s better with someone on the couch laughing at you. The only problem for our Xbox players: it’s not on Xbox. You will need a PC, Switch or PlayStation.
