It’s the first Saturday in a month that I’ve woken up without a stuffy nose or nagging cough. Trips to Spain, Sweden and Germany in rapid succession and busyness plus a cross-country bike ride may have been a little too much for my aging body.
However, finally, I’m fine. In the body, if not in the mind. So, better start playing some games, right?
Here’s what the team is doing this weekend.

I’m trying to get into the closed beta of Wardogs, on the grounds that – I’m told – you can ignore the gruesome aspects of warshooting and just spend your time transporting crates to and from the front lines in an old truck. Sometimes it’s nice to get away from it all.

I managed to persuade the overlords at Gamer Network to lend me a gaming laptop for reviews, so I’ll be trying out various fancier 3D things on that, including Blood of Dawnwalker. I also need to finish Pathologic 3. I’m open to suggestions for newer and higher end pricing. Do they still make those Silent Hill games? What about Jak and Daxter?

No game for me after two vampire weekends, I’m off to sit in a field and watch the cars go round in circles near Darlington. If I’m lucky, I’ll manage not to burn during the 20 minutes when the sun rises, despite the factor 50.
Ollie
The guys and I are dipping our toes back into the finale, for the first time in a long time. It’s just like I remember it: fun, but fast-paced as hell. Hopefully remembering how everything works will allow us to take the reins a little more this weekend.
Jeremiah
I’ll be playing Blood of the Dawnwalker this weekend, which I’ve really enjoyed so far. So far, my Coen is a very gentle boy who takes care of his family and will hopefully retire to the swamp to live happily ever after with his witch wife Anca at the end of this sordid tale, but he also won’t hesitate to fight back when Brencis’ guards become corrupted. I ended up killing all the guys who were keeping Mert the Miller under lock and key, and I did it with just the starting sword and armor, because why not. They were assholes.
Cal
A letter left on Callum’s pillow reads:
Suck it, guys. I went to the woods with my young friends. You used to be able to do this before your body got tired of the dirt.
Julian
I booked my days with Star Wars: Zero Company this week. Taking my galactic campaign one round at a time, while taking notes for our review. Hopefully most of the game will be finished this weekend. As I play, I’m also thinking about how I want to talk about this game in light of EA’s new owners. It’s certainly not something I want to ignore. Nor the news that 80% of the studio’s staff had been put out of work a few weeks before the game’s release.
When I’m not thinking about human rights abuses, I plan to make another orange molasses ginger tart.
And you, dear reader, what are you playing this weekend…?
