A series of explosions rocked Kiev early Wednesday, as Russia continued its attacks on the Ukrainian capital and NATO leaders met for a summit in Türkiye.
Journalists from Agence France-Presse in the city said that the first large explosion was heard even before the sirens sounded in the city, followed by four other explosions.
Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that warehouses caught fire in one area due to a missile attack, and in another area a “non-residential building” caught fire.
“The enemy is attacking the capital with ballistic missiles. Stay in shelters!” Klitschko wrote on social media.
The latest attack comes after Russian strikes – including several missile strikes on Kiev – killed 30 people in Ukraine on Monday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is in Ankara for a NATO summit, on Tuesday urged Ukraine’s supporters to increase aid for the country’s air defenses as it suffers from a shortage of interceptors crucial to shooting down Russian missiles.
