Boxing champion Christian Bringa is an English fighter who became world heavyweight champion decades before Saturday’s Albanian challenger Anthony Joshua.
Lennox Lewis He is Bringa’s main inspiration and once spoke to him via FaceTime, according to the 10/1 long shot against the fighter known as AJ.
If Bringa pulls off a shocker, he will push himself into contention to become one of Lewis and Joshua’s successors as a popular titlist.
Here’s a look at Bringa’s boxing record, what he had to say about the fight and key details from his bout with Joshua.
Christian Bringa’s Record: Boxing Knockout Artist
Bringa made his debut in Munich in 2016, winning his first four matches, all of which were held in Germany.
Bringa’s next bout was his only defeat, a points loss to Giovanni Auriemma in an eight-round bout in Holland, where he spent two years sparring with kickboxers.
He then won five matches in Canada and one in Colombia before his current 10-fight winning streak, all of which took place in the United States.
Only two of Bringa’s bouts went past the fourth round, as he has knocked out opponents in the first round on seven occasions, including each of his last three bouts.

Christian Bringa vs Anthony Joshua: What Bringa says
“I’ve worked my whole life for this,” says the 35-year-old, who credits his father with his early boxing training, as well as instilling in him the “mindset” and “discipline” needed to succeed in the sport.
“I’ve waited all my life for this and I hope to show the world this.
“Every boxer has weaknesses and mistakes in the ring, no matter who you are. I’ve seen it all.
“I respect Anthony Joshua a lot; I grew up watching all his fights. I saw his weaknesses and what he does best. I will show exactly what I paid attention to.”

Bringa vs. Joshua: The boxing fight “unfolded”
Bringa’s coach, Sami Loshaj, revealed how he met his fighter nearly six years ago.
“He walked into the gym where I was training,” Lushay told DAZN. “That’s how we actually met.
“I was wearing an Albanian T-shirt with the flag on it and he saw me. He moved away from everyone and came over and said hello.
“I was like, ‘Hey, it’s Christian Bringa.’ We kept in touch and have been friends ever since.
“He is like a little brother to me. I was with him in every match, in most of the training sessions and in all the camps.”
Loshaj says Bringa had a feeling he was going to face Joshua. “For the last couple of years, we’ve been talking about fights and stuff, and he’s been like, ‘I’m going to fight AJ,'” he explained.
“I was like, ‘Okay.’ He kept bringing it up over and over again. Then when he got that call, I was with him and we were coming to practice.
“I was like ‘Really?’ “He just showed it, I think.
Anthony Joshua vs. Christian Bringa: “A real challenge”
Joshua described Bringa as “very dangerous” and “a very good fighter.”
“I believe it, I know it, I studied it and I am ready for it,” said the 36-year-old, who has 29 wins and four losses.
“We chose Christian Bringa for a reason,” declared promoter Eddie Hearn. “It’s a real challenge.
“He’s got a country behind him and a chance to change his life. He can swim with the big boys and we have to find out if he needs badges or not.”
“If he doesn’t, it will be a real fight. If he does, it will be over very quickly.”

Anthony Joshua’s next fight: Tyson Fury awaits
Joshua dismissed questions about fellow former world champion Fury, but is expected to meet the Mancunian later this year if both fighters win this week.
Fury, 37, faces 46-year-old Mariusz Wash in Thailand on Friday, with reports suggesting the fighter known as the ‘Gypsy King’ will next travel to Jeddah to watch Joshua.
“We don’t want to talk about Tyson Fury,” Joshua said, stressing his need to “focus” on artist Bringa, an Albanian who has yet to face a fighter from the same family as Joshua.
“With all due respect, I have done everything I can to the media about what the future holds. Let’s focus on the job.”
