What are the Champions League squad rules?
The UEFA Champions League squad rules can be divided into two lists: List A and List B, with the former subject to a strict deadline before the start of the league stage.
List A
List A is the main lineup for the Champions League and was subject to the deadline on Wednesday evening. Clubs can register a maximum of 25 players.
At least eight must be ‘local coaches’ with no more than four classified as ‘association coaches’ rather than ‘club coaches’. If a club does not have eight locally trained players, the squad limit will be reduced proportionately – six locally trained players, for example, means a maximum of 23 players.
Clubs must also have at least two goalkeepers on the A list, with at least three goalkeepers on the A and B lists combined.
List B
List B is designed for younger players and has no limit on the number of players that can be registered. There is also no set deadline for the squad, as players can be added until 23:59 CET the day before the match.
A player can qualify for List B if:
- Born on or after January 1, 2005
- He was eligible for the club for two consecutive years since he was 15 years old
- Or be eligible for the club for three consecutive years, including a loan period within the same association, since you turned 15
Players aged 16 can also qualify if they have been registered with the club continuously for the past two years. Players who change clubs after participating in the UEFA qualifying or qualifying rounds can represent their new club from the league stage onwards.
