My name is TONY STARK…and my coppery crimson pants may have caused a few leaks. A work-in-progress trailer for Marvel’s Iron Man, an aerial action game in development at EA Motive, has appeared online. You can find it on It will be resetalthough I imagine the video will be deleted soon.
The timestamp “Aug26” indicates that this is a recent creation. The video itself uses some unfinished material, but the direction and editing suggest it could be an early version of an official trailer. Or it could be for an internal presentation of some kind. There are some blatantly goofy elements, like assigning the Hulk the role of “world director.” PROJECT HULK SMASH SPRINT.
The game depicted shows various locations – New York, what looks like a slice of historic Japan, complete with bamboo forests, and the crowded deck of a SHIELD helicarrier, where plenty of mooks are waiting for a good solid laser. And also the word “Chicago” on a sign. There are cutscenes, including that legendary Marvel movies close-up of a suit HUD crawling over Tony’s face. We see what appears to be Pepper Potts and Colonel Rhodes, the guy who pilots War Machine. Everything else is blurry to me, partly because the WIP character models look like haunted cream.
As for how it plays, the game seems reminiscent of Marvel’s Spider-Man games by combining swooping aerial traversal with punches, though it naturally places more emphasis on ranged combat. He’s Iron Man, after all. He has hypervelocity missiles coming out of his armpits. He also has these nice all-purpose palm repulsors, used for levitation, blastification, and punchification. I’ll hit you! I’ll explode you! I’m flying away! Haha, you poor stunned idiot. You will never be able to understand what I will do next.
EA has announced its new Iron Man game – not to be confused with Avalanche’s old canceled Iron Man project, which itself is the subject of a recent leak – in 2022, this was part of a planned wave of EA Marvel adaptations. Since then, EA has dropped a Black Panther game and also been bought out by a Saudi-led consortium with Trump appendage Jared Kushner as its figurehead. I talked about this a bit in a Star Wars Zero Company article the other week.
The acquisition threatens to create a lot of instability: EA now has $18 billion in debt to pay off. Given how much time has passed without us hearing anything concrete about the Iron Man project, I worry about its chances. This is total speculation, mind you. I have requested comment from EA.
