A late goal from Jacob Ramsey saw Newcastle fight back from 2-0 down and avoid the first goal Premier League Defeat for Matthias Geisel.
With Alex Scott showing the type of display that has seen him linked with big moves away from the Cherries all summer, the visitors took a two-goal lead with some lively pressing and attacking football.
But to their credit, Newcastle hung on and after Harvey Barnes scored a brilliant goal, Ramsey scored from the edge of the box two minutes from time.
The visitors took the lead when Ryan ran across the left flank. When Scott’s shot was blocked on the edge of the box, the ball was gently spread into the path of Marcus Tavernier to fire home from close range.
Justin Kluivert hit a good shot while Scott ran the show.
Another quick attack came from Scott recovering the ball. Kluivert hit the post with a stunning long-range effort, and when Scott recovered the ball to fire it across goal it deflected off Malik Thiaw and scored an unfortunate own goal.
The home crowd were furious but Barnes immediately pulled one back with a curling shot after cutting the ball in from the left.
The hosts almost took a 2-2 lead early in the second half when a brilliant run from Yoan Wesa led to Joe Willock heading wide from close range.
Mathias Fernandez Pardew, the second Belgian to play for Newcastle in the English Premier League after Philippe Albert, participated and looked lively.
But it was the other substitute Ramsey who slotted the ball into the Gallowgate End and earned a point.
