Tokyo-based publisher Serafini Productions and Chilean indie studio Time Hunters have announced Signal Veil, a third-person survival horror game set in the unsettling halls of Nishikawa High School. The game is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series

Players take on the role of Aki Mizuno, a teenager whose mother disappears without explanation, leaving behind only one clue: an old cell phone that responds to spirits invisible to everyone. At Nishikawa High School, a series of disappearances begins to unfold and Aki must piece together a past buried under false memories and silence. The premise leans heavily into psychological horror territory, weaving an emotional narrative into a tense, exploration-driven experience. Visually, the developers cite influences like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, and ’90s anime series like Another and Jujutsu Kaisen, giving Signal Veil a distinct aesthetic identity that sets it apart from other entries in the genre.

The haunted telephone at the center of the game is more than a narrative device. It detects supernatural entities through vibrations, static and visual distortions, and can be used to stun spirits with its flash or reveal hidden objects and footprints with its camera. Combat follows a ritual-like structure, requiring players to detect, provoke, stun, expose, and permanently purge each entity in sequence. Resources, including ammo, medicine, and mystical weapons, are deliberately scarce, meaning survival depends on observation and strategy rather than simply defeating enemies.

Sanity plays an important role in the flow of the game. As Aki’s mental state deteriorates, the environment changes around her, enemies become less predictable, and her own actions become more desperate. Signal Veil also uses fixed camera angles inspired by classic survival horror, a deliberate design choice that limits the player’s field of vision and builds tension in each room. Each corridor is designed to hide whatever it reveals, keeping the threat of what might be hiding just out of sight a constant presence throughout.

Signal Veil is now available as a wishlist on Steam and the Epic Games Store. For updates on the game’s development and release, players can follow Serafini Productions and Time Hunters through their official channels.
