The London City Lionesses have completed the signing of two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas.
Botelas was available on a free transfer after leaving Barcelona at the end of last season, sparking a fight over a woman who helped Spain win the 2023 World Cup and played a pivotal role in four Champions League victories during her 14-year spell in Catalonia.

“Off the pitch, building on my passion for youth development, I am also excited to work with (club owner) Michelle (Kang) in elevating women’s football in England and on the world stage.”

Kang was delighted to bring in the 32-year-old who will not only lead the standards in the WSL but also raise his profile.

London City finished sixth in their first season in the top flight after promotion, and embarked on a major recruitment drive this summer, signing English goalkeeper Marie Erps from Paris Saint-Germain, Danish defender Janne Thomsen from Utah Royals and German striker Nicole Aniomi from Eintracht Frankfurt.
