Tiffany Haddish reflects on third year of sobriety after DUI G trends

Tiffany Haddish talks about her ongoing journey to sobriety.

“Hey, I stopped drinking altogether when I realized how many bad things I’ve seen related to alcohol,” Haddish, 46, wrote via X on Saturday, August 22nd. “Sitting in court really opened my eyes. Case after case – domestic violence, child abuse, theft, fight, grape – somewhere in history, alcohol always came up. And I thought, ‘Damn, what would happen if I just never drank again?’ So I stopped.”

Haddish was arrested in Georgia in January 2022 Driving under the influence of alcoholwhich she pleaded for earlier this month. As part of her plea to avoid trial, Haddish’s driver’s license was revoked and she was given a 12-month suspended prison sentence. The comedian was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving for the second time in November 2023 and also reached a plea agreement after pleading no contest to reckless driving. Haddish was also sentenced to probation.

In the years since her arrest, Haddish vowed to stop drinking.

“More than three years later, life is great. No more waking up in pain. No more waking up next to ugly people. 😂 No more toxic relationships,” he said Girls trip actress added on Saturday. “Narcissists REALLY don’t like sober Tiffany because I don’t get involved in the mess anymore. It’s really funny how quickly a sober mind drives a toxic soul out of your life.”

Haddish continued, “I really wonder what would happen if everyone stopped drinking for just six weeks. How many arguments wouldn’t there be? How many bad decisions wouldn’t be made? How many people wouldn’t end up in court? I can only speak for myself, but giving up alcohol has given me clarity.”

According to Haddish, she can “see her dreams more clearly than ever before” after not drinking alcohol for three years.

“Now I actually believe I will make every single one of them come true,” she concluded. “Any questions?!?”

Haddish previously announced in May 2024 that she planned to stop drinking “all” alcohol.

“I will never do that again,” she emphasized Extra at the time. “It feels good to wake up and my elbows don’t hurt. My knees don’t burn. My ankles don’t burn, you know, there’s no inflammation. I want to be in a good place. I want to see myself in a good place too.”
