Trump attacks Washington’s potential next mayor as he promotes Potomac golf course project G trends

US President Donald Trump on Sunday criticized Washington’s next mayor, calling her a communist who would destroy the capital, even as he promoted massive construction projects including the renovation of a golf course.

Trump said in a post on Truth Social that he would meet with Janie Lewis George, who won the Democratic mayoral primary on Tuesday and has confirmed she will win the November election in the heavily Democratic city.

But Trump warned that he would not allow Washington, which he claimed had made it a “safe and honorable society,” to be destroyed again by the deployment of National Guard troops, “by a follower of communism.”

Trump has recently ramped up his use of the word “communist” to describe his political opponents, including referring to three winners of last week’s Democratic primary in New York City backed by leftist Mayor Zahran Mamdani as “godless communists.”

Like Mamdani, Lewis George identifies as a democratic socialist, not a communist.

In a second, lengthy post, Trump boasted of the steps he had taken to beautify Washington, including repainting the bottom of the reflecting pool with the “blue American flag” coating used in swimming pools.

But since it was installed, the paint has begun to peel and algae has turned the water green, a persistent problem over the years.
