What are we all playing this weekend? G Trends

October, we meet again. You slip through my bedroom window like a cold draft on a chilly morning, making my blankets more welcome and the long walk to the kitchen for coffee even more difficult. However, your arrival marks the end of a busy month of game releases and, for me at least, many weekends of travel. Your arrival is therefore not welcome.

Still, I’m going to spend this weekend trying to catch the last warm wisps of September before we get completely caught up in the cold of fall. A bike ride is being considered – but potentially with a base layer under my jersey or three-quarter length shorts to avoid calf cramps.

Enough about my bacon and eggs, here’s what the rest of the team is going to be doing this weekend.

The review NDAs mean I have another change in the coy mines, I’m afraid, although I’ll share one small detail: it makes a thud. Lots of clicking noises, actually. I’m only an hour in, but I’d say it’s been about sixty percent clicking noises so far.

I’m not entirely sure what I’ll be playing this weekend, but it might involve some paddle and torpedo launching sequences, hopefully not at the same time.

This Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse demo coming out now is pretty good, and everyone should try it, especially if you liked Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, which it reminds me a lot of. I’ll probably play it again this weekend and/or purchase more Castlevania game packs as part of the ongoing Steam Halloween sale. I really wanted to play the Haunted Castle remake that was included in the Dominus collection, in particular.

I have to keep quiet for now, but you’ll probably soon know what’s taking up my time this weekend. If I have some time outside, I’m looking forward to trying out American Truck Sim’s new road trip mode.

If I have time to get into anything, I’ll probably continue with Star Wars: Zero Company. While it’s not quite the ultimate Star Wars XCOM game I’ve always dreamed of, it’s growing on me. I think mostly because I’ve made a real power couple between my little Rodian sniper, Reebok, who talks like a gruff guy from the pub, and my hot pink R2 unit, TOBi, who zooms around the battlefield shooting combat stimulants at him. They keep trying to push the main characters on me, saying, “Look, you can use a Jedi!” But I don’t think they understand that Reebok and TOBi could have single-handedly brought down the Galactic Empire if they were as canonically strong as my playstyle made them.

Ollie
I’ll build my PC with a new part or two this weekend, then – assuming all goes well – I’ll try it out with some Wardogs, and maybe the new Trackmania campaign.

Julian
This is the first weekend I’ve been home in a while, so in addition to doing a little batch cooking and washing lots of clothes, make sure we’re ready for the week I’m going to play Star Wars: Galactic Racer. Well, that is if I can stop playing Scritchy Scratchy, the latest incremental game that sucks me in like Charybdis.

And you, dear reader, what are you playing this weekend…?
