Cody Jacobo scored his first goal of pre-season to put Liverpool ahead of Como in a friendly at Anfield on Sunday.
Dutch striker Jacobo, who scored seven goals Premier League Goals of last season: He received a cross from Jeremy Frimpong on the left side of the penalty area and shot it into the far corner of the goal in the 23rd minute against the Italian team.
Debutant Jérémie Jacquet doubled Liverpool’s lead a minute before half-time by tapping in Jacopo’s cross from inside the box on the left.

Former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor described Jacobo’s goal as a “really good finish”. “How many times do you see players attacking it, and it goes for miles, and you think they should have touched it?” Mellor asked Liverpool’s official broadcast.

Mellor also expressed his admiration for the work of Jacques and Jacquet in the second, and also praised Virgil van Dijk’s decision to feed his compatriot.
“Cody Jacobo could have scored the goal himself but he put the ball in the box – telling his teammates to ‘go and finish it.’
“People call it ‘buffet ball’, whatever you want to call it. (Alexander) Isak was desperate to be him, but it was Jacquet… and that put the stamp on a really good performance in the first half.”
The goals set new Reds boss Andoni Iraola on course for his first win at Anfield, having overseen a 3-2 defeat to Monaco in his first home match for Liverpool on 9 August.

Liverpool’s competitive campaign begins at Newcastle in the Championship on 23 August (16:30).
Como, who is coached by former Premier League star Cesc Fabregas and qualified for the Champions League by achieving a best-ever finish of fourth last season, visits Udinese in Serie A a day earlier (16:30).

Jacquet, who arrived from Rennes for £60m in July, was among Liverpool’s regular starters alongside Isak, who remains the Premier League’s most expensive signing ever thanks to the striker’s £125 move from Newcastle in September 2025.
Center back Ronald Araujo – who signed on loan for the season from Barcelona – was one of the substitutes.
Airola is left without Joe Gomez (muscle), Jayden Dance (groin), Hugo Equitiki (Achilles), Giovanni Leoni and Connor Bradley (knee).
Argentine midfielder Alexis McAllister played his first minutes of pre-season in the previous clash with Como.
